2020 Year in Review

Through tough times there were still moments to treasure. Despite the challenges we all faced in 2020, we decided to push the brand beyond social media. The launch of our website provided a space that allowed us to merchandise product we love, write about creators we care about, and host all relevant information in one place.

Then came the meaningful partnerships we formed with established retailers from different corners of the world, telling a story every time we came together to promote the vision we’ve had from the beginning, to give unwanted football jerseys a second life through upcycling. Merging football, fashion and sustainability all together.

Take a look back at some of our key highlights from this year below!

OVER THE PITCH - SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA

Looking back to April, we had the privilege of collaborating with Football Fashion leaders Over The Pitch and have our products merchandised for sale in a bricks and mortar store for the very first time.

Having visited the one of a kind football boutique in November 2019, our visions quickly aligned. Despite the language barriers, we were able to share a common love amongst football kit culture.

ULTRA FOOTBALL - SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

By June, we had another great opportunity to work with another established partner. This time, it was Ultra Football - Australia’s biggest football destination. Our aim was to give their ‘end of season’ kits a form of new life. Rather than letting these kits sit on shelves whilst being marked down dramatically, we were set on a mission to give them new value through the power of upcycling.

Come October - we had the honour to feature our staple tote bag design once again at their adidas Football Human Race FC activation, where 40 adidas teamwear kits were upcycled into bags that were then printed with powerful phrases such as “inclusive” and  “community” - all in celebration of the launch.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR

Not long into 2020 we were hit with the global pandemic - the novel Coronavirus. Rather than settling down during these uncertain times, we decided to adapt and further spread awareness of the importance of Face Masks all whilst sticking to our core upcycling principles.

Reusable Face Masks Football inspired

At Unwanted FC, we realised that we could provide a safe and sustainable alternative to single use masks. Wearable and reusable, these face masks were made from leftover materials from our previous projects which also proved resourceful for the business.

ENDLESS UPCYCLING IDEAS

With tote bags, pouches, laptop sleeves and mash-up kits already existing in the product mix.. What more could possibly be brought to life!?
-
Upcycling ideas are truly endless, and our team is always speaking of new concepts whilst putting functionality at the forefront so that we don’t overproduce. With that being said, here are the new products we managed to bring to life in 2020:
